Mandate Block Grant & Discretionary Funding Returns for Charter Schools in 2016-17

Mandate Block Grant

As outlined in the final California State Budget, the Mandate Block Grant will return for the 2016-17 fiscal year. This grant is available to School Districts, County Offices and Charter Schools with funds being allocated using 2015-16 P-2 ADA for each entity.

Charter Schools will receive $14.21 per ADA for K-8 students and $42.00 per ADA for 9-12 student.

The application deadline for participation is August 31st and funding is expected to be disbursed to Schools in November.

One-Time Discretionary Funds

The final State budget also provided a total of $1.4 billion of one-time Proposition 98 Reimbursement Payments.   Similar to the Mandate Block Grant above, funding will be distributed based on 2015-16 P-2 ADA and offsets (current) outstanding mandate reimbursement claims.

The estimated amount to be awarded is $237 per ADA, with no distinction being made between grade levels. The funds are to be allocated towards content standards implementation, technology, professional development, and deferred maintenance.
